Miro-r
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, June 2015
This painting is a conceptual portrait of one of my favorite artists - Joan Miro in which I've tried "mirroring" his artistic character and artistic language as I see them.
There for this painting is called "Miro-r" that reveals the figure's identity and in the same time implying to the mirror effect of this portrait.
End of Sound
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, May 2015
Different people react differently to the same sounds, noise, words etc. While one will be annoyed or offended, the other will ignore and move on.
Sometimes we so overwhelmed by things being said or sounds we hear that we wish to shut ourselves up from hearing as the figure in the painting trying to do.
But is it possible to shut ourselves completely from hearing? Can we end the sound?
Essentially what bothers us is not the sound but the meaning we give it. There for sound/meaning is inside us, we control how sounds and words affect us, we are the sound same as the figure in the painting resembles a musical key.
The only way to "end the sound" is to ignore it and avoid giving it the harmful meaning we used to...
The Thin-ker
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, June 2015
Sometimes no matter how hard we think we simply can't reach the solutions or answers that we seek.
In such cases and others, it's better to get out of the "thin" thinking state that keeps us in the dark into a wider and broader one, look around, take advise from others and then we may discover that the light and answers were right behind us all the time...☺
The Pendant
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, June 2015
This painting is talking about how sometimes while trying to keep something that has a high material value; people being pulled down and as a result live unhappy life.
The apparently unhappy figure in the painting is being pulled down by the golden pendant on her neck but it doesn't seem that heavy to cause such affect. So it's the psychological weight rather than a physiological one that causing that. The question is what she had to do to in order to obtain this pendant and/or keep holding it...
Sometimes people work hard or in professions they don't really like because of materialistic consideration while missing other important things in life as family, friends and maybe talents they have no time to realize...
More material doesn't necessarily mean more happiness and it's important to find the right balance and even the courage to give something up that has material value but pulling us down emotionally and spiritually.
The Seat
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, June 2015
This painting is dealing with human tendency of attributing level of status to people according to their apparent physical position.
Is a person in an expensive car is rich and of high social position or he's merely the driver?
Is a person entering a fast food restaurant has a low income or maybe he's actually very rich but likes to eat there? Is it possible that he's actually the owner of this restaurant chain?
Is a person buying a professional physics book must be smart or maybe it's a present for someone else?
The figure in the painting is sitting on an apparently important seat; does it mean this person is important or of high status? Is it possible that it's just a simple tired man sitting in his armchair?
Eventually the quality of a seat is determined by the person sitting on it and not the other way around...
The Handler
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, June 2015
Be wary of those who despite their appealing looks or soft tongue hold the hand of truth behind their backs...
The Open Minded
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, June 2015
This painting is talking about the boundaries of open mindedness.
Open mindedness is a wonderful thing that allows us to respect opinions, point of views and beliefs that are different from our own and as a result accept and respect people that are different from us.
However open mindedness doesn't mean that we should "lose our own mind", dismiss our own principles and beliefs to allow the principals and beliefs of others to take place (unless we truly adapt their point of views).
Dismissing our own self in front of the other doesn't mean open mindedness because once you have dismissed your own mind and self, there is no other set of principles and beliefs apart of the other side's and there is no one there anymore to be open minded to the other...
The Tasseographer
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, July 2015
This painting is talking about human's wish to know the future and the unknown through mystical means.
The tasseographer doing future reading through tea/coffee but actually those are only the means to illuminate the knowledge/information projected to the soul.
Many times people lose self confidence and cling to external means for receiving information related to their own lives which may help them to get some peace of mind or assist in decision making.
The different external mystical methods can assist sometimes but the true and constant source of information is within us all if only we'll believe and listen.
If we'll just sit quality think/meditate or clear our mind in any other way, we'll see things much clearer and the information we're seeking will be revealed to us.
The Bloom Spirit
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, July 2015
For all the early and late bloomers; always remember that the bloom spirit can come unexpectedly for a visit and make us bloom but most importantly it can also be invited as long as we remember it :-)
One
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, July 2015
This painting is talking about the unity of elements that make One single complete entity.
The painting can be viewed in several ways:
1. Father (the upper figure), a mother (middle figure) and a child creating one family.
2. The elements of sky/air represented by the upper figure, earth represented by the middle figure and water represented by the lower figure creating one planet-earth.
3. The upper figure representing the past hovering over the rest of the figures as if dissolving but still present in our minds, the middle figure representing the present who's nourishing the future - the child figure which is dependent on mother's care and actions which will determine how he will be. All those elements create one life time / world existence.
Of course there may be additional meanings in which this painting can be viewed so feel free to open your mind to other possibilities and even add them in comments if you like...
The Necked
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, July 2015
The beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
Some will see a deformed figure while others will see a beautiful flower.
We decide who and what we are and we also have the freedom to choose which words we accept and which we ignore.
The Indigo Child
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, July 2015
This painting is for all the indigo children out there.
Keep growing and spreading the light...
Exhaustion
Oil on canvas, 60x50 cm, July 2015
Cause sometimes it's ok to admit that we are very tired and give ourselves the time to just rest.
Coat of Arms
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, August 2015
There is a fine line between the sense of protection and belonging that one can feel while marching under certain group's flag/identity and the sense of constrain and lack of freedom to express thoughts and do things different from what expected from the group's members as a heavy coat that provides protection from the cold but in the same time limits the arms freedom to move...
Companionship
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, August 2015
If you open minded enough; companionship can be found with the most unexpected partners...
So sometimes we may benefit much more by not dismissing the one who's different than us and offers us friendship than chasing the companionship of the similar.
Life Spectator
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, August 2015
Some people are avoiding to fully experience life out of fear of failure, being hurt etc. even if they're fully equipped with the right abilities, knowledge and talents to live life in full and succeed.
Such people often observe the world from a passive point of view being afraid to join life's stream same as the figure in the painting that looks fully dressed for an occasion but stays indoors while passively watching the world from a window.
As the saying says; at the end the worst regret is for the things we haven't done than for the things we did do...
The Pointer
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, August 2015
Some people tend to point automatically to other direction when something is going wrong or in times when there is a need to take responsibility for a certain situation.
In fact; this type of behaviour can take hold of any one of us from time to time as we all are human and don't like to be seen as failure.
But no matter how much the problem we caused is severe, we'll always be perceived better in case we'll look for the source cause in ourselves and take responsibility than pointing to other direction and that's not only because sooner or later the truth will come out, but mainly because this behaviour is damaging for our self-perception and confidence for being able to handle life's complications or being strong enough to carry the circumstances as a result.
The Visionary
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, August 2015
A tribute to all the creative and imaginative minds out there...
The Hider
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, September 2015
This painting is talking about a human mental state of feeling scared or too weak to handle certain situation or life in general.
It can be a temporary situation that many people experience at certain point in life or more constant state of existence that prevents a person to live his/hers life in full.
Over Sensorium
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, September 2015
High sensitivity and high perception are normally a blessing to the person that possesses them.
Those qualities provides their owner the ability to understand things and situations must faster and allows capturing more accurate the overall picture while seeing and connecting details that others don't see.
However; over sensitivity/sensorium can also cause overload of triggers and information on a person's mind which leads to exhaustion and confuse to the point of tendency for isolation and withdrawnness.
The key for enjoying those gifts is always to find the right filters for each situation and place that will allow absorption of what needed while filtering out the noise.
The Refugees
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, September 2015
This painting is dedicated to all the refugees escaping horrors of war or other tragic circumstances with hope to find safety and better life.
The red-black background symbolizing the horrors from which the refugees are escaping while the green ground symbolizes safer and better place to which the refugees are heading.
Also, the mother's colors symbolize the sad and painful past while the more colorful colors of the child symbolizing the better and more optimistic future.
Thumbelina
Oil on canvas, 40x50 cm, September 2015
Because magic and wonder can be found in the most little things if only we'll open our minds and hearts to see...
The hand of Fate
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, September 2015
No matter what are the external circumstance; eventually the "Hand of fate" is your own hand and you are the maker of your fate...
Mirror
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, October 2015
Is the reflection you see in the mirror is the actual and exact image people see when they're looking at you?
We tend to criticize our appearance and see faults that no one else can see.
So every time you look in the mirror do not despair but know that you actually look much better than you think and if you're behaviour is also kind to your surroundings; it's guaranteed that you'll score even more beauty points :-)
Stone of Wisdom
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, October 2015
True wisdom roots are in learning, obtaining knowledge and using our own intuition and logic to decide what is true and what is false, what is right and what is wrong based on the knowledge we gathered throughout time.
No external element as a "stone of wisdom", academic degree and such can indicate that a person is indeed wise unless he/she is actually went through the wisdom gathering process and able to process the given information wisely...
The Forest Spirit
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, October 2015
Dedicated to all the people that have deep connection to nature and feel there more at home than in any other place...
The Lamenter
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, October 2015
It's ok to give yourself the space and time to lament for something hard you've been through or someone you've lost physically or emotionally...
Jocheved's Sacrifice
Oil on canvas, 50x60 cm, November 2015
Sometimes we need to give up or let go of someone or something we really love in order to save him/her/it as Jocheved put her baby Moses in the chest and let it float in the Nile so Pharaoh won't take his life.
And sometimes this sacrifice is rewarded by getting back what we had to let go of same as Jocheved was reunited with her child when she became his nurse.
Caretaker
Oil on canvas, 60x70 cm, November 2015
When one taking care of something/someone, no matter how hideous or bad it may look to others, the caretaker will see it as something/someone deserving love and kindness.
Luckily there are people in our world that are willing to love and take care for beings that are rejected by others.
